The “Boots On The Ground” song and line dance have kept us moving this year. Although anti-Black people and policies keep being rolled out, we're still moving in unity. Here are three ways we can use that same "boots on the ground" energy to resist the oppressive forces we’re facing.

1. Know The 10 Steps To Autocracy - Stacey Abrams recently explained that government is moving us to autocracy, a political system where one person holds absolute power. She warns that from DEI rollbacks to incentivizing violence, Trump and his enablers have already completed most of the steps necessary to establish an autocratic government.

2. Keep An Eye On History Being Erased-There have been recent attempts to erase Black history from museums, classrooms, and national parks with these new "snitch signs." Not only are we not going for this, but we should remember we come from a long legacy of self-determination. We can keep our stories, traditions, and truths alive without anyone's permission.

3. Community First-Leaning on the community has supported us, from enslavement to this day. Whether you donate to a neighborhood fridge or volunteer at a Black-run community garden, liberation requires mutual aid.

We must know our history to build a better future and fight anti-Blackness. They don't want our boots on the ground or our eyes on the streets, but we have to do both.

We have a quick favor to ask:

PushBlack is a nonprofit dedicated to raising up Black voices. We are a small team but we have an outsized impact:

  • We reach tens of millions of people with our BLACK NEWS & HISTORY STORIES every year.
  • We fight for CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM to protect our community.
  • We run VOTING CAMPAIGNS that reach over 10 million African-Americans across the country.

And as a nonprofit, we rely on small donations from subscribers like you.

With as little as $5 a month, you can help PushBlack raise up Black voices. It only takes a minute, so will you please ?
