Yet again, another police department has been caught with its hand in the "racism" jar. But what could this force have done so wrong that it would have the Vincent, Alabama city council vote to trash their ENTIRE police force?
In exposed text messages, one officer asked, "What do y'all call a pregnant slave?" The answer? "BOGO Buy one, get one free."
After the backlash, police chief James Srygley said they were undergoing an "internal investigation."
Too little, too late! Days later, officers were terminated, and the whole department disbanded.
With zero police, Vincent will have neighboring Shelby County answer its emergency calls. But what if the cops from that department are racist too, just without the obvious text messages to prove it? Or the next department, or the next?
Black residents of Vincent deserve better - and it's not even just Vincent.
An investigation in 2019 revealed that 400 former and current cops were in extremist Facebook groups. If you search "police officers racist group chats," endless articles will come up since then. And that's just cops who got found out!
White supremacy isn't a few bad apples in policing - it's why policing exists.
"The Black community isn't just going to go back in the corner," said Rev. Kenneth Dukes, the president of the NAACP's Shelby County branch. "They're tired of being disrespected."
