#1: Black Death

Hailed as the “first” all Black heavy metal band, Black Death has been rocking out since 1977. Their activity has had breaks, but the band has continued to create new music and tour.

#2: Living Colour

As the entrance music for popular wrestler CM Punk, millions are familiar with the song “Cult of Personality.” However, what may be less known is that the band, Living Colour, is the Black alternative metal band behind the hit.

#3: Slash

He’s arguably one of the most famous guitarists of all time. His signature black top hat, dark sunglasses, and mane of beautiful curls make him stand out wherever he goes. Many don’t realize that this rock legend was born of a Black legend: fashion designer Ola Hudson.

#4: Body Count

There are few people as hard and respected as Ice-T in the hip-hop pantheon. But his musical stylings and influence have been a mainstay in metal since he founded Bodycount in 1990.

#5: Wrust

Proof that music is truly universal, Wrust thrashes from Botswana. Countless bands have influenced them, but Black-led metal bands have been their metal gods.

While this narrative is that metal, punk, goth, or any other genre that is shown as “white,” it is, in fact, as deep and diverse, and beautiful as we are.
